These are the outcries from Christian and Non-Christians
alike this past week. As citizens hold signs in protest of Planned Parenthood’s
abortion services today, I ask my Christian brothers and sisters to re-think
your focus in this fight for life. (By now, you should have known I’d take this
down a different path, right?)
I’m not here to debate whether life starts at conception or
birth or somewhere in between. I’m not here to say whether you should vote for
or against the legality of abortion.
IT DOESN’T MATTER.
Just like every other thing that happens in this world – God’s
got it under control. Take Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air: they
neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds
them. Are you not of more value than they?” There is so much more to this
section of scripture – I urge you to read it with an open mind. The gist is
this: God’s got it under control.
“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up
kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have
understanding;” Daniel 2:21 clearly shows us Daniel’s belief that God knows and
places our rulers for a reason. He knows what’s going on down here on earth, ya’ll.
Today I watched hundreds of people hold signs in Downtown
Spokane in support of life. But, it didn’t look like support to me. It looked
like hate. It looked like a protest against others. Because that’s what it was!
STOP ABORTION. CHOOSE LIFE. #PPSELLSBABYPARTS.
These are the signs that men, women, and children were
holding up in the streets. Yes, we should stop abortion and choose life.
Perhaps Planned Parenthood DOES sell baby parts. But there is a much greater
tragedy at stake here.
The women who enter those abortion clinics are hurting.
Stop thinking about the horrible people who run that
facility and start thinking about the women that enter it. Why are they there?
Many of them fear they have no other alternative. Many of them think this is
the ONLY WAY. These women want a quick way out of a crappy situation and many
of them have no support system to tell them there’s a better way.
This sign is probably the only one present that I myself
would have held up. This woman deeply regrets her abortion. This sign isn’t
hate. It’s not slanderous. It simply states she regrets her decision. If I was
walking by and feeling my only way out was abortion – I’d definitely
second-guess a decision when I saw this.
Take heart, Christians. Be slow to speak, quick to hear, and
start analyzing the situation a little better before jumping in the fight. If
Planned Parenthood is so evil, then ask yourselves why they are the only place
these women felt they could go. We are being distracted from the work of Christ by joining in issues like this one.
We should be banding together to help the women in these
situations. Our job on earth is to spread Christ’s love. WE NEED TO BE ABOUT
OUR FATHER’S BUSINESS! His business wasn’t to stand around holding signs and
yelling into a microphone about the evil of abortion. His business is about
loving your neighbor as yourself. Giving to the poor, helping the needy.
Instead of holding signs and hash-tagging about Planned
Parenthood on social media, step outside your door, look up from your phone,
and talk to someone. ANYONE. Tell them about Christ's love. Tell them you love them. Ask them how their life is going, and when they respond LISTEN.
Don't be distracted, my fellow Christians! Reach out and love your neighbors! You can do more to influence the ways of the world by focusing on your job here on earth, than by picketing on the side of the road.
With love in Christ,
Heather
